A new street exhibition “Postal History” has opened in Naryan-Mar

The new poster exhibition is located in the museum courtyard of the Shevelev House (4 Tyko Vylki St.). The exhibition tells about the development of postal business in the district

The exhibition presents a small collection of mailboxes; you can see diagrams of postal routes and find out how mail was delivered to Zapolyarny Pustozersk.

In addition, here you can see archival photographs of the delivery of letters and parcels on snowmobiles, mailrooms, employees and the building of the Naryan-Mar main post office. They were provided to the Museum Association of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug by Russian Post.

– Postal communications in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug developed gradually: from irregular messages and receipt of government correspondence through Arkhangelsk, the first postal departments at the beginning of the 20th century. until postal services are provided throughout the region. Now the Nenets Autonomous Okrug is served by 28 offices, and the main post office has become the hallmark of Naryan-Mar. “I am very pleased that together with the Pustozersk Museum-Reserve we opened this exhibition,” said Alexandra Bogomolova, director of the Federal PS of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

As explained to NAO24 at the Pustozersk Museum-Reserve, the exhibition will be available to visitors for a whole year.

Let us remind you that this is the third outdoor exhibition in the museum courtyard. Themes were chosen for the “Night of Museums” by voting.

First exhibition – “Water, firewood, slop” – opened in 2021. The second topic was “Great piece of iron.”
