Zelensky thanks Spain for its “unwavering support” during the presidency of the EU Council

At the last summit in 2023, the leaders of the European Union approved opening negotiations with Ukraine for its future accession as a community member, an aspiration of Ukraine for years.

This Monday, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskythanked Spain and its President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, his “unwavering support” during the six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“I thank the outgoing Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU for its unwavering support. These six months were crucial for the future of Ukraine and the EU,” Zelensky posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

He also went on to say: “the Spanish presidency and Pedro Sánchez did everything possible to bring our common goal closer: a strong and united EU with Ukraine as an integral part.”

Zelensky congratulates Belgium for taking office

Zelensky also wanted to congratulate Belgium and his Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, for assume the presidency today of the Council of the EU.

The Ukrainian president wished the country that the presidency would be “fruitful and enhance European unity and strength. […] “We look forward to working together to advance Ukraine’s accession to the EU.”
