The director of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Thomas White, has warned that all his group’s aid operations in Gaza will be suspended in the next few weeks.s 48 hours unless fuel is allowed into the besieged territory.
“During the last three weeks, and after close coordination with the Government of Israel, UNRWA was able to access a large fuel reserve in Gaza, on the border with Egypt. This warehouse is now empty”has warned
White has stressed that they have received no fuel shipments in the Palestinian enclave since the attacks carried out by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7. “This morning two of our main water distribution contractors have stopped working“They have run out of fuel, which will deprive 200,000 people of drinking water,” he lamented.
Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA commissioner general, has also warned about fuel shortages, warning that the agency’s fuel depot in Gaza has been emptied and that within days UNRWA will no longer be able to refuel hospitals, remove sewage and provide drinking water.
