Antonio Costa resigns as Portuguese Prime Minister after being investigated for corruption

Antonio Costa, has announced his resignation as Prime Minister of Portugal being investigated for alleged irregularities committed by his Government. Costa has informed of this decision through a televised statement, although he has emphasized his innocence.

Allegedly, his administration would have committed irregularities in project management lithium and hydrogen mining in the country.

Costa assures that he has a clear conscience

The former Portuguese prime minister announced his resignation after his meeting with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Despite everything, Costa has assured that his conscience is clear.

On the other hand, during the morning of this Tuesday, November 7, prosecutors have charged the Minister of Infrastructure, Joao Galamba. Furthermore, they have also stopped to Costa’s chief of staff.

For its part, the opposition has demanded that the Portuguese Government resign with immediate effect.
