The humanitarian ship of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), the Geo Barents, has already been blocked 20 times, which since this Thursday and For 20 days it will have to remain moored in the Italian port of Marina Di Carrara, after disembarking 249 castaways rescued off the coast of Libya.

This is a new violation of International Law and humanitarian rights, as denounced by Juan Matías Gil, coordinator of MSF operations in the Central Mediterranean.

“The arrest warrant says that the captain has not followed the instructions of the Libyan Coast Guard and has endangered the people who were in difficulty on the boat,” says Matías Gil. “These accusations are absolutely false.”Add.

The NGO affirms that it is the Libyan coast guard – financed by the EU – that puts people’s lives in danger, while the Italian government of Giorgia Meloni insists on sanctioning those who save lives.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 320 migrants have died so far in 2024 in waters of the Central Mediterranean.
