The combination of alcohol and the altered cabin pressure of an airplane can have a negative impact on the body of passengers, especially during sleep.
The main problem is the decrease in oxygen levels in the blood and the increase in heart rate, which can be especially dangerous even for young and healthy people.
Scientists stress that drinking alcohol on board an airplane is a serious, but often underestimated, health risk that can be easily avoided.
Passengers are advised to avoid alcohol during flights to minimise the strain on the body and avoid potential complications.
Clarifications
Alcohol (from Arabic الكحل, el-kuhl – “antimony” via Latin alcohol, in medieval Latin this word denoted powders, distilled water) – in Russian it acts as a synonym for ethanol (as well as other alcohols) and alcoholic beverages (that is, beverages containing ethyl alcohol in significant concentrations).
Airplane (obsolete: aeroplane; from French aéroplane, aéro – air, plane – flat) — a class of aircraft heavier than air, designed for flights in the atmosphere with the help of a power unit that creates thrust and a wing that is stationary relative to other parts of the apparatus, creating lift.
