Defense Minister Margarita Robles has called on the international community this Saturday to address the political situation in Venezuela, which she has described as “worrying” and wanted to reaffirm that “the minutes are being hidden” which is why he has asked for transparency from the Government of Nicolás Maduro.
“Spain has a leading role in the international community (…) Venezuela needs, requires and demands a democratic process with total transparency,” Robles said in statements to the media during her visit to the Headquarters of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) at the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base (Madrid).
On Friday, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) approved a resolution calling on Venezuelan authorities to present the electoral records and urging the parties to “refrain from any conduct” that could compromise the construction of a peaceful solution to this crisis.
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, recalled that the electoral authority “declared a president without a single document to support his decision, without complying with the law and in flagrant contradiction with the documentation collected by the table witnesses.”
He also noted that there have been “multiple limitations to the right to information, with government blocks on digital tools ranging from the opposition’s own results dissemination page to social networks, instant messaging services and the media.”
Meanwhile, the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela (TSJ) continues with the work of examining the minutes of the presidential elections of July 28, after which the electoral authorities declared the current president, Nicolás Maduro, the winner, despite the opposition’s allegations of fraud.
The agency’s technicians are currently examining the electoral material submitted by the competing political parties and their representatives in the Expertise Area, which will also allow them to verify the damage caused to the National Electoral Council system after the massive cyber attack reported by the authorities after the elections.
