Sheinbaum invites Putin to her inauguration as the new president of Mexico

The president-elect of Mexico has invited the head of state of Russia, Vladimir Putin, upon his inauguration, scheduled for next October, a decision that gave rise to the controversy in the North American country.

The Mexican Embassy in Moscow has confirmed that the invitation has been delivered, while clarifying that It will be Putin himself who decides whether to attend the event or not. However, Mexico falls under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant against the Russian president in 2023 for alleged war crimes.

For its part, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that the event has been attended by The leaders of the more than 200 countries with which it maintains ties were invited, which includes “208 foreign leaders and 34 heads of international organizations,” he said.
