Nearly 30,000 people in the first two days of the Strait Crossing, 76% more than in 2023

The 2024 Operation Crossing the Strait (OPE) was completed in the first two days – June 13 and 14 – with the participation of nearly 30,000 people (29,724, specifically), which represents 75.7% more than in the same period last year – in 2023, the OPE began on June 15 -. According to data published by the Ministry of the Interior consulted by Europa Press, on the first day of the operation (June 13), a total of 14,286 people and 4,201 vehicles crossed through the Andalusian ports. This past Friday, the number of people was 15,438 and 4,588 vehicles.

Compared to the first two days of Operation Crossing the Strait in 2023, this year, to date, there have been 29,724 people who have participated in it, which is 12,810 more people, 75.7% more. OPE 2024 will take place between June 13 and September 15. The advancement of the celebration of the Feast of the Lamb for Muslims to June 17 marks the intensity of the flows in the first weekend of the OPE 2024, between June 14 and 16.

The other dates with the highest incidence in the first leg coincide with the last weekend of July (27, 28 and 29) and the first of August (1 to 5). On the other hand, the critical days in the return phase will occur at the end of that same month (August 30 and 31 and September 1).

The Fleet Plan will be the one established by the Spanish Merchant Navy, after agreement with Morocco and the shipping companies. It establishes the number of ships and their mobility requirements, health inspections and conditions to establish the interchangeability of tickets, among other topics.

Both the Civil Guard and the National Police Corps have personnel reinforcements for Operation Strait Passage, taking into account that they coincide with a greater influx of arrivals of migrants and tourists, reinforcements that will take place during the technical meetings that are going to take place. to complete OPE 2024.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) will maintain the vehicle flow information system, which begins from the moment a vehicle enters the Spanish country, due to the good results obtained. Thus, the DGT device is established based on three sections: the surveillance of the main corridors at the state level, communication and information through social networks and websites, and the signage plan.
