Biden meets with his National Security team on Monday over tensions in the Middle East

The president of United States, Joe Bidenwill meet this Monday with his National Security team in the ‘Situation Room’ –crisis room– of the White House to discuss the current tensions in the Middle Easton the rise following the death of the military chief of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, Fuad Sukr, in an Israeli attack and, above all, of the political leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniye, after an action that occurred in Tehran and was attributed to Israel.

The meeting will take place behind closed doors and will follow a call between Biden and King Abdullah II of Jordan, the White House confirmed in a statement on the president’s agenda.

It is noteworthy that the Secretary of the United States Department of State, Antony Blinken has assured to his G-7 counterparts during a video conference Iran and Hezbollah could begin their attacks against Israel as early as Mondaythree sources told the American news portal Axios.

Blinken has also expressed doubts about the type of response from Iran and Hezbollah, but that it will take place in the next 24 or 48 hours in the face of failed attempts to dissuade Tehran from a powerful response.

In that regard, the sources said that Blinken has highlighted his efforts to “break the cycle of escalation” by urging maximum restraint on all sides, and reported that the secretary seemed “frustrated” when mentioning his recent conversations with Israel because Washington believed it was “close to a breakthrough” in the ceasefire negotiations just before Haniye’s assassination.

Officially, the G7 foreign ministers have called for a de-escalation and an end to the violence, as well as reaffirming their commitment to a ceasefire, the release of hostages and the intensification of humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip.
